The system sends a simple SMS to the dog GPS receiver through the mobile network. The dog’s SIM card located on the receiver sends back the pup’s location information to your cell phone. This process takes only seconds to complete. And even more, you can set a parameter in the GPS system settings, when the dog crosses that parameter, you get alerted.
There are to differing types of the system available. First, a system is available that has a high upfront cost. This system has no monthly fee. Second there is a system that has little upfront cost but requires that you pay monthly for the service. The latter only notifies you when you dog is outside his circle.
To know exactly where he is, you have to contact the service providing company for more information and here comes the monthly fees. The expensive system gives you all the information you need, like the exact dog place on the map, how far he is, and how you can reach him the fastest way.
The system was developed by two different companies, one for hardware, the second for software. Petlink is one of the software companies and Telia provides many of the devices.
When buying a pet tracking system keep in mind that you will want a lightweight collar that does not bother your pet. You want a collar that will stay on and that the pet cannot chew to remove. A collar that is off your pet will not allow you to locate him.
