Whelping is one of the most important procedures to be known by pet owners. It refers to a reproduction of whelps by a female pet. An owner is recommended to master all necessary procedures that need to be undertaken to help a pet whelp with no complications. It can be done with the help of certain pet whelping supplies.
First of all, it must be mentioned, that a pet in a pre-birth condition needs to avoid stress situations in order to have a whelping process be successfully accomplished. So, it is improper to fetch a pet doctor (presence of an unfamiliar person is non-preferable for a pet). As a matter of fact, an owner is advised to complete this procedure by himself/herself.
One is expected to provide a spacious box with high rails and cover it with a thick warm rug. Moreover, one needs a special emergency kit containing pet whelping supplies, such as: surgical gloves (to handle the process with sterile hands); towels (to rub whelps); floss (to tie the cords up) or hemostats (to crimp them); scissors (to cut the cords, if a pet doesn’t do it by itself); an injection with a birth-stimulating drug (optional) and others.
