When you decide to buy a goldfish, it’s important to buy a good fish tank for your new fish so your pet lives a long time. The size of your goldfish bowl will depend on the number of fish you are getting plus their size. Goldfish are a species that needs a large tank size for it to grow healthy. The prime reason to get a large tank is that it carries large volumes of water and that helps dramatically to dilute and lower the concentration of ammonia created by your goldfish.

The normal rule for when you buy your tank is to decide how many fish you are gong to have in the tanl. For instance, if you are going to buy four fish swimming in the tank, you would require at least 36 gallon fish tank size to accommodate all your pets. However, you must also bear in mind that common goldfish can grow up to 8-10 inches in length and thus your aquarium must also be sized in accordance to cater to your pets maximum growth.

Once you have narrowed down your choice of a fish tank size that will suffice the water requirements of each goldfish, you then need to figure out the surface area of the tank which is crucial for fulfilling the oxygen needs of your fish. Goldfish are rather timid by nature and decorating your aquarium with hiding places and other colorful elements will make them feel safe and secure. Filling half of your tank with such attractive pieces will lure the fish into open swimming.

Make sure you clean your goldfish bowl regularly. If you don’t clean it often, the bowl will get very dirty. Make sure you put your fish in room temperature water when you clean your bowl. Moreover, make sure you scrub everything really good and do not put the fish back into a different temperature water. If you move the fish often into different temperatures it will shock it and could make it ill.

Taking care of your goldfish starts at the beginning with buying the right bowl. If you want to keep your fish healthy and living a long time, it is important to get a good goldfish tank and make sure you clean it often. Use the right water, the right lights, and make sure the bowl is the right size. If you do this, your goldfish will live a long time.
