Wintertime is kind of a down period for your fishpond, as there isn’t a whole lot going on through those months. Nevertheless, there are special precautions that you need to take before Winter arrives, to make sure that your pond and fish survive. Clean Up- Normally it takes about an entire weekend to wholly go over a pond. If it has any unwanted bulk material in it or around it, you need to clean it up. Inside your pond, clean up all leaves, silt, and other material from the bottom. Take out any of the flowers or plants in your pond that won’t survive winter. Koi Pond Equipment – How to Keep the Water Crystal Clear

by John Stoner Every Koi owner wants to have their fish swimming in crystal clear water. But exactly what do you have to do to get the water in a Koi pond that clear and how do you keep it clear? There are a few pieces of equipment that you might consider trying in your Koi pond. Consider using an ozone unit. Ozone has been used in aquariums for some time but its use in Koi ponds is relatively new. Ozone is created by passing air through a high voltage electrical discharge. The result is oxygen with an extra atom. This extra atom of oxygen is easily detached and in the process creates a powerful disinfectant effect, killing any living organisms in the water nearby.
