Written by Guss Fitzgerald on September 14, 2009 – 6:04 am -

Choosing the right aquarium lighting can be a challenge because of the range of choices available. A good way to limit your choices is to learn about some of the reasons for installing aquarium lighting. Once you learn about them, you will have a better idea of which lights to get. Aquarium lighting serves a variety of purposes, and one of these is for aesthetics. Lights can be used to make the tank look better and to highlight certain areas of your aquarium. How to Take Care of Barbs in an Aquarium

Written by Anika Woods on June 11, 2009 – 3:15 am -

by Anika Woods Just like other pets, some species are easier to handle than others. In fish care, species like Red, Tiger, Rosy and Sumatra barbs are easy to breed and care for. If you are a beginner in fish breeding, chose one of these species. Besides the species character traits, in choosing a fish is good to take into consideration the size of it. For example, it is not good to add in the same tank very small fish and big ones. The big fish will see the little one as live food and have an aggressive behavior. The Black Ruby and Purple Head Barbs: This fish species is originally from the Ceylon waters and grows to around 2 inches in size. The females are a bit different than the males. For example, the females have yellow-gray figures... more

The Filtration System in Fish and Aquarium Care

Written by Anika Woods on May 3, 2009 – 4:43 am -

by Anika Woods The filtration system in aquarium fish care is extremely important. The system filters pollution, and the chemicals. The water passed through the system and the filters retain what is harmful. After a while, the filters are changed. The science of molecule, the chemistry, helps us keep our tanks clean and our fish healthy. The chemical filtration system helps remove a large volume of pollutants. The chemical filtration system has filters that are organized into simpler counterparts. For example, the charcoal is one of the most used chemical in filtration systems. by The Aquarium Lady A fish tank has seemingly become an important staple for any household. Many homes have fish tanks; some have smaller fish tanks with only a few fish, while others have large tanks with a large amount of fish, plants, and accessories. A type of tank that many people do not consider having, however, is a Reef Aquarium. Many people do not know, or consider, having a Reef Aquarium Tank. A reef aquarium is different than a normal aquarium in the fact that it focuses on the live coral, and the ecosystem of fish and plants that thrive around the coral, instead of focusing on the specific fish that are in the tank. While people may not know about it, reef aquariums are gaining popularity. What is a Reef Aquarium? The major difference... more

Written by Johnathan Livingston on February 9, 2009 – 6:34 am -

by The Aquarium Lady A Nano Reef Tank is a type of live coral reef tank that is gaining popularity by both professional and amateur reef lovers alike. Just like a normal reef tank, a Nano Reef Tank is simply an aquarium that features both live corals and other sea life. Some of these are smaller fish, while others may be larger. The purpose of the Nano Reef Tank is to recreate the look that would be seen in an actual large body of water. Just like the reef tank, the Nano Tank features the live coral as the star of the aquarium, with many other small sea creatures and plants added as accessories for the over all look of the tank. A Nano Reef Tank is identical to a normal reef tank; the only major difference between the two tanks is the size... more
